The Basics of Pond Aeration

A pond is going to be a classic and natural attraction to your backyard. You can just imagine what a relaxing and lovely sight it is to behold at the end of a long and tiring day. Additionally, you can show it off to family and friends on Saturday afternoons when you invite them over for a barbecue or outdoor party. It offers therapeutic benefits to relieve stress when you really need to pause a moment and reflect on things.

Regardless of your reasons, having a pond is going to be a most sensible decision. On the other hand, you need to be familiar with taking care of your pond too. Of course, this involves pond aeration.

A great deal of living matter in the likes of algae and many other microorganisms are going to be leaking wastes, and even die in there if they cannot adapt to existing conditions. The water’s oxygen level will be depleted because of certain chemicals that are getting released during these processes, which can jeopardize the cleanliness of the water and the health of your fish. Your fish alone will be using up this oxygen for their continued survival, and even if you have plants in there as well, these plants will not be able to supply enough oxygen for the fish’s survival and for keeping the water safe. That is why, aerators have been introduced to offer help in the avenue of increasing oxygen in ponds.

Aerators can be the surface type or the bottom variety. A surface aerator works from above the water and pushes the air downward, so that oxygen gets distributed all throughout. Ideally, surface aerators are used on ponds that are not deeper than eight feet. In case your ponds is more than eight feet deep, you should go for the bottom version. A bottom aerator uses the reverse method and that is, pushing the oxygen from below to the surface. Pond aeration is a universal requirement for all types of ponds, whatever their depth. Installing an aerator in your pond is going to keep your fish as well you healthy.

The surface aerators can be purchased online and then installed independently. These gadgets are straightforward and usually come with instructions upon purchase. As well there are surface aerators that have to be installed by the professionals because these are more complicated than the regular ones. If your pond requires a bottom aerator, you can also get one through the Internet, but you are definitely going to need a professional to install it. Bottom aerators are usually complicated for one that do not have the technical knowledge about how to do it. You might end up damaging your aerator and then it becomes useless.
