The Basics of Pond Aeration

A pond is going to be a classic and natural attraction to your backyard. It is going to provide the ambiance and respite that you need after a long day’s work. Additionally, you can show it off to family and friends on Saturday afternoons when you invite them over for a barbecue or outdoor party. Besides, it can serve as your therapy every time you feel stressed out and need to ponder on things.

For whatever reasons or purpose, you just have to go ahead with your plans of adding an outdoor pond in your home and then enjoy it. On the other hand, you need to be familiar with taking care of your pond too. Apparently, pond aeration is one of the essentials.

Algae along with other microorganisms are going to gather in your pond and then excrete tremendous amount of waste materials, not to mention die in there, when the environment is not ideal for them. The process is going to release some chemicals, resulting to exhaustion of oxygen in the water and making it unsafe as well unhealthy for the fish. By themselves, the fish is going to consume this oxygen for their survival, and while you may put plants in the water, still they won’t be able to sufficiently provide the oxygen required by the fish to survive or for the water to stay healthy. That is why, aerators have been introduced to offer help in the avenue of increasing oxygen in ponds.

Where To Start with Ponds and More

There are two types of aerators available; the bottom version and the surface type. A surface aerator works from above the water and pushes the air downward, so that oxygen gets distributed all throughout. In most cases, surface aerators are installed in ponds that do not go beyond eight feet deep. On the other hand, the bottom version becomes ideal if the pond is deeper than eight feet. This time, a bottom aerator propels the oxygen from below going upwards. Pond aeration is necessary for all sorts of ponds and no matter the depth. Especially, if you want to keep the pond healthy not only for your fish, but for you as well.

Lessons Learned from Years with Aeration

Surface aerators are available online and can be installed on your own. These gadgets are straightforward and usually come with instructions upon purchase. Other surface aerators may be more complicated and installation will require professional help. Bottom aerators can also be purchased online, although, installing one will definitely require the services of a professional. Installing a bottom aerator can be very challenging if you don’t have the technical know-how. Besides, you would not want to destroy your aerator before you’ve actually used it or would you?
